My Training and Expertise
I am a New England native and board-certified Urologist, serving Southeastern Connecticut. I completed college at the University of Vermont, earned my MD at Boston University School of Medicine, and completed six years of Urologic residency training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. I first practiced at York Hospital in Southern Maine before joining Backus Hospital in 2013, where I now serve as Chief of Urology and Director of Robotic Surgery.
With many years of experience in general urology, I have developed expertise in prostate disorders, incontinence, bladder dysfunction, urologic oncology, minimally invasive procedures, and robotic surgery. I am committed to providing state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic options that utilize the latest technology including the daVinci robot.
I continuously engage in education and training to stay at the forefront of my field, including targeted prostate biopsies using MRI / ultrasound fusion technology and enhanced cystoscopy that increases the detection rate for bladder cancer and decreases recurrences at the time of resection. By combining my expertise with a patient-centered approach, I work in partnership with my patients to offer the highest quality care that improves your health and wellbeing.
About Me
Beyond medicine, I’m easy-going by nature and place the highest value on family and relationships. My wife and I have shared a long journey together, raising our two children, now young adults. Watching them grow has been the most rewarding part of my life, and the time we’ve spent together has shaped who I am both personally and professionally. Along the way, we’ve lived in different corners of New England and the Midwest, and we deeply cherish the people we’ve met. Both colleagues and patients have touched our lives in lasting ways, reminding me that medicine is about more than procedures – it’s about connection, respect, and trust.
I also enjoy the activities that bring us together and keep me balanced: skiing in the winter, scuba diving and boating in the summer, traveling and exploring the outdoors, and sharing simple moments with my family. I have a habit of slipping in a corny joke now and then, and I never say no to good ice cream or a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
